Lessons.

The title seems preachy, right?

The best part about life is, our ability to learn & adapt. So, here’s what I have learnt so far (oh yes, I’ve certainly made a lot of mistakes for learning these! Not that I regret them *wink wink*)

Lesson #1.
Learn to be happy in what you have. Don’t look for happiness in other people, your career, or in ‘things’ for that matter. Look inside. It’s deep within you. That’s where you’ll find happiness.

Lesson #2.
Don’t leave something good, to pursue better.
You might end up losing both. Stay clear about your priorities.

Lesson #3.
If it’s making you happy, don’t question it.
Life is short. Make good use of it.

Lesson #4.
Be content with yourself.
This doesn’t mean you stop trying for that promotion you have been working for, it simply means. .maintain your calm while working for it. Better results guaranteed.

Lesson #5.
Don’t give up after a failure.
Guess what? Everybody fails. Isn’t a big deal. Failing at something doesn’t make you a failure, quitting it certainly does.

Lesson #6.
Be fearless.
Don’t worry about what your future holds. Fear is the demon that’s holding you back. You know that the ‘fear’ is real, when it’s holding you back to do something you want to do.

Lesson #7.
Karma is real. Believe in it.
What you give is what you get.
When you’re good to others, others will be good to you. Unless they are a**holes, in which case, ignore them rather than becoming like them. Also, when you hurt others, somewhere down the line. .you’ll get the taste of your own medicine. So, be careful.

Lesson #8.
Don’t try to get everyone to like you.
Because darling, everyone is different. .so no matter how good you are, it’s not necessary that they will end up liking you. It also takes a lot if efforts. Besides, you’ll lose your essence while trying to please others.

Lesson #9.
Don’t sweat about WHAT OTHER PEOPLE ARE THINKING.
Don’t let others opinions be your reality. Don’t waste your time thinking what they might think if you do this and that. Do whatever makes you happy. Simple.

Lesson #10.
Steer clear of people with negative vibes.
You are what your company is. If you’re in a group of people constantly pulling you down, change your circle. You should be with people who will support you in moving forward.

Lesson #11.
Always stand up for yourself.
Because if you won’t, why anyone else will? It’s your battle, fight it.

Lesson #12.
Take care of your health.
Your body is your temple. For goodness sake, take good care of it. Go for a walk or jog everyday. Take fitness challenges to motivate yourself. A sound body leads to sound mind which in turn leads to calmness. And that my friend, is very important.

Lesson #13.
Don’t over indulge in Internet.
You have a life before Internet,  don’t forget it. Don’t be consumed by the illusion of social media. Also, Google won’t tell you how to make friends.

Lesson #14.
It’s not the end of the world.
That relationship which ended badly, that career setback, those low grades. .don’t let anything depress you. The feeling that nothing will work for you ever again is a myth. It will. Give it sometime honey. Give it sometime.

Lesson #15.
Anger is your enemy.
It’s not good. Not for you and not for your loved ones.

“Boredom, anger, sadness, or fear are not ‘yours,’ not personal. They are the conditions of human mind. They come and go. Nothing that comes and goes is you.” – Eckhart Tolle.

Lesson #16.
Change is a law of nature. Accept it.
Don’t be scared. It’s not always bad.

Lesson #17.
Nothing is permanent.
Nothing is, really. If you’re miserable, it won’t last long. If you’re ecstatic, it won’t last either. So, don’t panic when things won’t work out your way. Also, don’t lose yourself in extreme happiness. Maintain that common ground.

Lesson #18.
Adjust.
Don’t change others, change yourself. Adapt. You won’t have your way always. In fact, most of the times.

Lesson #19.
Don’t compare yourself with others.
For good or bad, comparison is always a bad idea. The key to happiness is accepting the fact that some people have it better. Concentrate on your happiness and your progress, not others.

Lesson #20.
Work hard.
Nothing in this life comes easy. You want something, work for it.

Lesson #21.
Keep it simple.
Life is simple yet we are hell bent on complicating it. Stop.

Lesson #22.
Forgive.
Don’t do it for them, do it for yourself. If you won’t forgive and let go, you’ll keep on sulking on it.

Lesson #23.
Stop over thinking.
You will make up the problems which didn’t even exist before. Don’t do that to yourself. Breathe.

Lesson #24.
Be kind.
You can never know what that certain person is going through. One kind gesture might make things better for them.

Lesson #25.
Self reflection is good, self deception is not.

Lesson #26.
Life isn’t fair.
Accept it. Sometimes, good things happen to bad people and bad things happen to good people. No particular reason behind it. The sooner you accept this simple fact and stop expecting, the sooner you will grow.

Lesson #27.
Set your priorities.

Lesson #28.
Read. Write. Be artistic.
Always have a hobby. Always. It can be anything.

Lesson #29.
Travel.
Explore.

Lesson #30.
Inspire others.
Trust me, it feels good.

Lesson #31.
Be a good listener.
If you’re friend is cribbing about something, don’t start advising her. Do that eventually. But let her Vent out first. Sometimes, all we need is someone who will listen to us. Also, a Hug doesn’t harm.

Lesson #32.
Not everyone needs to know everything about you.

Lesson #33.
Family and friends matters.
Don’t ignore them. Tell them how much they mean to you, every now and then.

Lesson #34.
Keep your dreams alive, but don’t day dream for life.

Lesson #35.
Have some patience.
I’m impatient, and it has got me in trouble zillion times. That’s why I’m saying. .have patience. Learn to wait.

Lesson #36.
Stay focused.

Lesson #37.
Let go.
Most difficult thing to do indeed. If it’s making you sad, let it go. It takes more courage than holding on. I know I know, it’s easier said than done. But as my mom always say, “try try till you succeed!” There’s a fine balance between honoring the past and losing yourself in it.

Lesson #38.
Don’t be a judgemental prick.
Everyone is different and are brought up in different situations. It’s good to have opinions, it’s bad to be judgemental about it. Accept people the way they are.

Lesson #39.
You are a human being, not a human doing.
I read these lines somewhere, and they are stuck in my mind. In today’s rush, we all think too much, seek too much, want too much and forget about the joy of just being.

Lesson #40.
Keep your ego aside.
Self respect is good, ego isn’t. Be smart enough to know the difference.

Lesson 41.
Don’t get addicted.
Drinking, & smoking are okay. Addiction is not. Everything when done within limits, is fine.

Lesson 42.
Stop worrying.
I don’t remember a single time when being ‘worried’ has been productive for me.

Lesson #43.
Pain is real and painkillers won’t help.
But guess what? Time heals everything. You will be fine. Just hang in there.

Lesson #44.
Stop complaining.
You’re not a victim. Either leave the situation, accept it or change it. Don’t complain. You’re better than that.

Lesson #44.
Live in the present, not sulking about the past or worrying about the future.
Live in the moments, not in memories.

Lesson #45.
People will leave you. But guess what? It’s perfectly okay. You will learn to survive without them, maybe not now. .but someday.

Lesson #46.
Loving yourself is the beginning of a life long romance.
You can never really love anyone, if you aren’t in love with yourself.

Lesson #47.
Learn to live alone.
Spend time with yourself. Solitude. Enjoy your company. Cook, watch TV, read.

Lesson #48.
Break ups doesn’t mean that your partner was a Satan. Sometimes, most of the times, two good people can not make it through time. It’s okay. Don’t blame them or yourself. It wasn’t your fault or theirs for that matter. Don’t be hard on yourself.

Lesson #49.
Stay optimistic.
There will be times when it won’t be easy, but don’t lose hope. Although, i always say ‘hope’ is a dangerous word.

Lesson #50.
Connect.
There’s nothing beautiful than making connections with people, & touching their lives.

Ah! I didn’t intend the list to be this long! Haha!!
The biggest problem with us is, we think we know everything. .We are so consumed in ourselves that we might even ignore a good advice. .I’m sure, few of you might be thinking. .”what a nonsense post! We already know all this.” Well if you’re happy and content, I’m really sorry you had to read this, but if you’re not. .please read again and relate. We all have common problems, in one form or another. It’s how we tackle them defines us.
What consumes our mind, controls our life. Don’t let your insecurities hold you back. Time will get the best of you one day.
Don’t try to control it, accept and enjoy. Life is way too short to be wasted upon people who don’t deserve you and unpleasant situations.
Nothing significant ever happens, until a pattern is broken. (Source unknown)
I’m still learning, walk with me ❤

Lesson #51 – People do and say a lot of things just to be in conformity with whatever preconceived notion it is that they believe they must meet…you have a brain, use it

  6. Love your list. I will pose a challenge to #2 “Don’t leave something good to pursue better.” On a certain level, this reinforces the concept “don’t try something new because it may result badly.” In other words, we may be better ONLY “living INSIDE the box.” This doesn’t mean abandon good judgement and act recklessly. We need to find a balance between our comfort zone and our desire to grow and develop as individuals.
    Very good post!

  10. A great list, but of course – like all similar lists situational and context dependant.

I particularly liked the one about steer clear from people with negative vibes. That one rings true in almost every situation!
